Before launching the CTS line of models, Cadillac used to face stiff competition from other European auto powerhouses. The CTS changed the automaker’s fortunes and has placed the company at par with the likes of BMW, Audi, and even Mercedes Benz. The 2007 Cadillac CTS is the fourth in its generation.
2007 Background Info
The 2007 Cadillac CTS adopted its exterior styling cues from the Cadillac Evoq concept model. At the time, the automaker said they had applied 100% art and scientific approach to the CTS’s design. The vehicle is bold, lean and features an array of sharp edges and intersecting lines with a short front projection. It measures 190.1 inches long and rides on 113.4 inch wheel base. At the front, there are vertical headlights, a large louvered eggcrate grille with a shield shape. The grille which traces its origin back in the 1930s is also integrated with the Cadillac’s emblem. The rear features vertical taillights The Cadillac rides on 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels and an optional 17-inch wheels on the Sport package. This package also includes a sport-tuned suspension, a load-leveling rear suspension, and StabiliTrak electronic stability system. On the other hand, the Sport Performance Package features 18-inch wheels along with xenon HID headlights, StabiliTrak and a tire monitoring system.
The interior of the Cadillac CTS accommodates 5 passengers. It features premium wood finish on its 3-spoke steering wheel, door pulls, and the gearshift knob. Its seats are covered in leather with an option for heated front seats. It has a cargo capacity of 12.8 cubic feet. For communication purpose, it is fitted with GM’s OnStar communication system as standard. There is also an optional navigation system which features XM NavTraffic which is hooked to the OnStar Connections and Directions which provides concierge service, vehicle diagnostics, and spoken directions among others.
For safety purposes, the 2007 Cadillac CTS features 6 airbags i.e. dual stage front airbags, roof-mounted side curtain airbags and seat-mounted side-impact airbags. Other safety features include an all-speed traction control and antilock brakes which are offered as standard. As said above, electronic stability system is offered in the Sport Package and the Sport Performance Package only.
The 2007 Cadillac CTS features two engine options. The base engine is a 2.8 L V-6 VVT 60-degree dual overhead cam unit. This engine produces 210 hp @6,500 rpm and 194 lb-ft of torque @ 3200 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission system or a choice of the Hydra-Matic 5L40 5-speed automatic transmission system. This model has a combined EPA rating of 27 mpg. The second powertrain is a 3.6 L V-6 VVT 60-degree dual overhead cam engine. It produces 255 hp @ 6,200 rpm and 252 lb-ft of torque @ 3,100 rpm. Both engines feature a dual-stage variable intake manifold and fully variable valve timing and exhaust valves to deliver excellent fuel economy, flexibility and emission control
